CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology

Fall 2016

Instructors: K. Powell and E. Stone

An introductory course to technology and its role in the classroom. As the first course in the master's program I learned about technology and its role in education by starting to explore theories of how students learn and to check for understanding through the integration of technology. In addition, learned about Professional Learning Networks (PLN) through a project where we had to learn about something new and then blog about it. Click here to see my PLN project. Introduced to TPACK framework for the first time, which was used in future upcoming courses. Click here to learn about how I acquired knowledge about TPACK. I was able to apply TPACK to future courses such as CEP 811 and CEP 820, where I was able to design my own course that could be taught in a credential program.

CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education

Fall 2016

Instructors: S. Schuch and M. White

Continued to build knowledge upon the TPACK framework through the role of MAKER education and it can be implemented in all classrooms. Experimented with a MAKER tool of our own that we could actually implement in our classroom. I would eventually use the material that I learned about MAKER education to further my own course design in CEP 820. Click here to learn more about the MAKER tool I used. At the end of the class, I reflected on why MAKER education should be in all classrooms. Click here to learn about those ideas.

CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice

Spring 2017

Instructors: A. Keller and R. Galang

Throughout this course we took an in-depth look at how the use of technology can address a variety of teaching and educational problems also known as a Wicked Problem. By the end of the course, we worked in a group to attempt to solve a Wicked Problem that exists within education. I was able to take what I had learned with the Wicked Problem and apply it to CEP 815, where I learned about the administrative side of things of implementing technology. We have to understand Wicked Problems in education in order to make the education arena a better place for all students. My group focused on the idea of what does it mean to teach and reinvent teaching. Click here to learn more about our approach to this Wicked Problem.

CEP 817: Learning Technology by Design

Spring 2017

Instructors: C. Richardson, C. Cheng and D. Campbell

In this course, we learned about Design Thinking and the various steps that need to be taken in order to become someone who effectively uses Design Thinking. We explored the steps of Design Thinking through a Problem of Practice. We went through all of the steps of Design Thinking with our Problem of Practice. Click here to learn about my Problem of Practice and what I learned about Design Thinking. Going through the process of Design Thinking can be directly related to MAKER education, CEP 811, because it takes the steps of Design Thinking to properly implement a MAKER class on a school campus.

CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings

Summer 2017

Instructors: C. Roseth and C. Cheng

In this course we explored the idea of learning and what does it actually and truly mean to learn, which both are challenging questions to find answers to. By the end of the course we were then able to create our own Personal Learning Theories and explain how these were added to throughout the course. By developing our own Personal Learning Theory, we were able to further develop our own pedagogy about learning. The idea of how we learn and where we learn about information can be related to CEP 810, when we did our Professional Learning Network Project. The ideas behind learning can also be connected to CEP 815, where I had to learn about how the use of technology has to appeal to all stakeholders involved and when you can attach learning to it then it makes it even more appealing to all involved with the implementation of technology. Click here to read about how I further developed my Personal Learning Theory.

CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research

Summer 2017

Instructors: C. Cheng, E. Wong, M. Lei, and J. Westadl

The course was designed to learn about the methods of researching for educational theory purposes and how it can help us improve our own classrooms with actual educational research. We learned the differences between reading summaries of research versus actual educational research. In order for our classrooms to improve we have to keep up to date with the current educational research that is out there. We need to do this in order to stay up to date with our current students and how they learn. Understanding how students learn, which was explored in CEP 800, was then expanded on through this course by actually researching best practices for the classroom in order for every student to learn best in the classroom setting.

CEP 815: Technology and Leadership

Fall 2017

Instructors: K. Shack

Many of us ask the question about why do all schools not have access to technology? From this course, I learned that there are many reasons why technology might not be accessible to all students at all schools besides just the idea of money, it is also the idea of how does technology actually further the learning of students. By applying what I learned in CEP 800 and CEP 822, I was able to use what I know about the idea of students learning and explain how technology, when used in the right way can benefit the way students learn. All of the stakeholders involved in education have to realize the importance of technology and the role that it can have in the classroom. By the very end of this course, we wrote our own vision statements that had to take all stakeholders into account.

CEP 818: Creativity in Teaching and Learning

Fall 2017

Instructors: C. Richardson

Creativity is something that we do not always think about but it is definitely used consistently in the classroom and some people might be under the belief that the use of technology in the classroom can take away this creativity but instead we discovered that it can add to it. At the beginning of the course we chose a topic to be creative about and I chose the Civil War. Each week we had to take our topic and think about it in a creative manner and actually come up with a product. Click here to see my Sparks Notebook. The creativity I used throughout this course can be directly related to CEP 811, where I had to use my creativity in order implement MAKER education in the Social Studies classroom. We also have to use our creativity when it comes to demonstrating and informing all stakeholders about the importance and value of using technology in the classroom, which was learned about in CEP 815.

CEP 820: Teaching Students Online

Spring 2018

Instructors: A. Heintz and C. Cheng

Learned about different theories and platforms that can be used for online learning, which was an idea that was also explored through educational research in CEP 822. Throughout the course we developed our own online course and I chose to do mine through the use of Google Classroom. My Google Classroom course is for students who are in a credential program to learn about Educational Technology. The course I designed took elements from CEP 810 and CEP 811, where I learned about TPACK and pedagogy as I believe this is where credential students need to begin their journey when they first start learning about the implementation of technology in the classroom.

CEP 807: Capstone Educational Technology

Spring 2018

Instructors: M. Koehler, B. Dillman, S. Greenhalgh, and S. Keenan-Lechel

Conclusion to my journey with the Master's of Arts in Educational Technology. Being able to reflect on what I have learned over these past two years and put together a digital portfolio of everything I have discovered through the many projects I have completed. Overall, being able to demonstrate my knowledge of what I have learned and how I have grown in the educational technology field.
